Word List
TRIANGLE
A polygon with three sides and three angles. The sum of the interior angles of any triangle always equals 180 degrees.
CIRCLE
A perfectly round shape in which all points are equidistant from the center. The distance from the center to the edge is called the radius.
SQUARE
A rectangle with four equal sides and four right angles. Squares are special cases of both rectangles and rhombuses.
POLYGON
A closed, flat shape with straight sides. Triangles, squares, and hexagons are all examples of polygons.
ANGLE
The space between two lines or surfaces that meet at a point. Angles are measured in degrees and classified as acute, right, obtuse, or straight.
RADIUS
The distance from the center of a circle to any point on its edge. The radius is half the length of the diameter.
VERTEX
The point where two or more lines, edges, or rays meet. In a triangle, there are three vertices, one at each corner.
SYMMETRY
A property of a shape in which one half is a mirror image of the other. Shapes with symmetry look the same on both sides of a line of symmetry.
PARALLEL
Lines or surfaces that remain the same distance apart and never intersect. In geometry, parallel lines are fundamental to understanding shapes and proofs.
PRISM
A three-dimensional solid with two parallel, identical polygonal bases connected by rectangular faces. Triangular and rectangular prisms are common examples.
About Geometry
Geometry is the branch of mathematics concerned with the properties and relationships of shapes, sizes, angles, and spatial figures. From ancient Egyptian land surveying to modern computer graphics, geometry has practical applications in countless fields.
Geometry Vocabulary
This puzzle features essential geometry vocabulary: shapes like TRIANGLE, CIRCLE, SQUARE, POLYGON, and PRISM, measurements like RADIUS and ANGLE, and properties like VERTEX, SYMMETRY, and PARALLEL.
How to Use This Word Search in Class
After completing the word search, have students find real-world examples of each shape in the classroom or school building. They can photograph or sketch each one and label it with the correct geometry term. This connects abstract math vocabulary to tangible objects.
