ZEUS
The king of the Olympian gods in Greek mythology, ruler of the sky and thunder. Zeus was the most powerful of the gods and the father of many heroes.
ATHENA
The Greek goddess of wisdom, strategy, and crafts. Athena was the patron deity of the city of Athens, and the Parthenon was built in her honor.
APOLLO
The Greek god of the sun, music, poetry, and prophecy. Apollo was one of the most widely worshipped Greek gods and was associated with the Oracle at Delphi.
HADES
The Greek god of the underworld and ruler of the dead. Hades is also the name of the underworld itself, the realm where souls went after death.
HERMES
The Greek messenger god, also associated with trade, travelers, and thieves. Hermes was the guide of souls to the underworld and wore winged sandals.
ODYSSEY
The epic poem by Homer describing the hero Odysseus's long, eventful journey home after the Trojan War. The Odyssey is one of the oldest and most influential works of Western literature.
TITAN
A member of the older generation of Greek gods who ruled before the Olympians. The Titans were overthrown by Zeus and the Olympians in a war called the Titanomachy.
ORACLE
A person or place through which the gods communicated their will. The Oracle at Delphi was the most important in ancient Greece, consulted by leaders on major decisions.
OLYMPUS
The highest mountain in Greece, believed by the ancient Greeks to be the home of the twelve Olympian gods. The gods of Olympus were said to feast on ambrosia and nectar.
PHOENIX
A mythical bird that cyclically burns itself to ashes and is reborn anew. The phoenix is a universal symbol of renewal, resilience, and immortality.
