ARACHNID
An animal with eight legs and two main body parts. Spiders, scorpions, ticks, and mites are all arachnids.
SILK
A strong, stretchy thread made by spiders. Some spider silk is stronger than steel of the same thickness.
SPINNERET
An organ at the back of a spider's body that pulls out silk thread.
FANGS
Sharp, hollow mouthparts that spiders use to bite prey and inject venom.

ORBWEAVER
A spider that builds a round, wheel-shaped web with spokes and spirals, the classic web seen in fall gardens.

About Spiders

Spiders are arachnids, not insects. They have eight legs and two main body parts, and most have eight eyes. Spiders make silk from organs called spinnerets and use it for webs, egg sacs, and safety lines. They help people by eating insects and other pests.

Spiders Vocabulary

This word search covers spider science: what makes a spider an ARACHNID, how it spins SILK from its SPINNERET, how it catches PREY with FANGS and VENOM, and how it grows by MOLTING.
