A town in Massachusetts where the first shots of the American Revolution were fired on April 19, 1775, beginning open conflict between colonists and British troops.
SARATOGA
The Battle of Saratoga in 1777 was a turning point of the Revolution, convincing France to formally ally with the American colonies against Britain.
BUNKER
The Battle of Bunker Hill (fought largely on nearby Breed's Hill) in 1775 showed that colonial militiamen could stand up to trained British soldiers.
TRENTON
General Washington's surprise attack on Trenton, New Jersey on December 26, 1776 captured nearly 900 Hessian soldiers and revived American morale.
PRINCETON
The Battle of Princeton in January 1777 followed the victory at Trenton, giving the Continental Army another morale boost after months of retreat.
CAVALRY
