The United States Constitution, ratified in 1788, is the supreme law of the land. It establishes the structure of the federal government, divides power between the states and the national government, and (through its amendments) protects the rights of individuals. It is the oldest written national constitution still in use anywhere in the world.
This puzzle features core constitutional vocabulary: the document's PREAMBLE and ARTICLES; principles like FEDERAL, REPUBLIC, and DEMOCRACY; and processes like AMENDMENT, RATIFY, FRAMERS, JUSTICE, and STATES.
Use this word search alongside a guided reading of the Preamble, which is short enough to memorize. Have students rewrite the Preamble in their own words, then identify which goal (a more perfect Union, justice, defense, etc.) connects to each vocabulary word in the puzzle.
