About Back to School

The first weeks of school are when routines get established. This activity gives students the shared vocabulary they need to talk about their day, from the room they learn in to the person who leads the school.

Back to School Vocabulary

Students pair everyday school terms with their meanings: CLASSROOM with the room where a class meets, PRINCIPAL with the leader in charge of the whole school, and SCHEDULE with the plan showing what happens at each time of day.

How to Use This Matching Game in Class

Use this during the first week as an icebreaker. After students finish, walk the room together and point out each place named on the cards. For younger classes, have students draw the part of the school they are most curious about.
