Africa is home to some of the most iconic wildlife on Earth, with vast savannas, dense forests, and diverse habitats supporting an extraordinary range of animal species. Many of these animals are found nowhere else in the wild.
This crossword uses behavioral and physical description clues to test knowledge of African wildlife. Students must identify animals from characteristics: 'the tallest living animal' is GIRAFFE, 'the fastest land animal' is CHEETAH, and so on.
After completing the crossword, have students create a food web using the animals from the puzzle. Discuss predator-prey relationships and how each species fits into the savanna ecosystem. This extends vocabulary practice into ecological thinking.
