Share Gridls with Pass Codes: Control Who Plays Your Puzzles
You can now protect any Gridl puzzle with a pass code. When you share a link, only people who know the code can access it. This is perfect for teachers who want to make sure only their students can play, or for anyone who wants a little more control over who sees their puzzles.
How It Works
- Create your puzzle as usual (crossword, word search, flash cards, or matching game).
- Set a pass code from your puzzle's settings. Pick any word or phrase you like.
- Share the link. When someone opens it, they'll see the puzzle title and a prompt to enter the code.
- Players enter the code and optionally their name, then they're in.
That's it. No extra accounts, no complicated setup. Just a simple code between you and your players.
Track Who's Playing
When players unlock your puzzle, Gridl records their name (if they provide one) and when they started. You can view this from your puzzle's stats page, giving you a quick way to see who has engaged with your content.
This is especially useful for teachers assigning puzzles as homework or review activities. You get a lightweight attendance log without needing a full LMS integration.
Why Pass Codes?
Shareable links are great for open distribution, but sometimes you need a gate. A few examples:
- Classroom assignments. Share the link with your class and give the pass code verbally or through your usual channel. Students outside your class can't stumble into it.
- Team building. Create a puzzle for your team offsite and keep it exclusive to attendees.
- Paid content. If you sell educational materials, pass codes let you distribute puzzles only to customers.
A Pro Feature
Pass code sharing is available to Pro subscribers as part of the $15/year plan. Free users can still share puzzles with open links. If you're already on Pro, you can start using pass codes right now from any saved puzzle.
