Free Printable Math Drill Sheets for Grades 1–5
We just added math drill sheets to Gridl. Each sheet has 40 problems in vertical format, ready to print and use in the classroom or at home.
What Are Math Drills?
Math drills are timed practice sheets focused on a single operation: addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division. The goal is fluency. Students practice the same type of problem repeatedly until the answers come quickly and automatically, which frees up mental capacity for more complex math later.
Drills are most effective when they are short, consistent, and timed. A five-minute drill three times a week builds more fluency than a longer session once a week.
What's Available
Drill sheets are organized by operation and grade level:
- Addition: Single-digit and multi-digit addition facts for grades 1 through 3.
- Subtraction: Subtraction within 20 in early grades, progressing to two- and three-digit problems.
- Multiplication: Times tables from 0 through 12, suitable for grades 3 through 5.
- Division: Basic division facts matched to the multiplication tables students already know.
Each sheet has 40 problems in a clean vertical layout with plenty of space to write answers. There is a name line and a time line at the top for timed practice.
How to Use Them

Tips for Using Drills in the Classroom
- Set a consistent time limit, typically two to five minutes, and have students circle the last problem they completed.
- Track progress over time. Students who can see their own improvement stay motivated.
- Use drills as a warm-up at the start of math class, not as the main lesson.
- Pair drill practice with conceptual work. Fluency and understanding reinforce each other.
Who These Are For
Math drill sheets work well for:
- Teachers who need a quick warm-up activity that fits any lesson plan
- Parents who want focused at-home practice between tutoring sessions
- Students who are working on building speed with facts they already understand
Every sheet is free, no login needed.
