Crossword Clip Art: Add Illustrations to Your Crossword Puzzles

Pro users can now add clip art directly to their crossword puzzles. Place illustrations anywhere on the page, drag to reposition, resize with the corner handle, and print. The clip art prints exactly where you put it.

The same clip art library from the worksheet builder is now available in the crossword editor:

• School: Pencil, open book, graduation cap, ruler, backpack, ABC, chalkboard
• Science: Microscope, atom, beaker, magnet, planet, DNA
• Animals: Fish, butterfly, bird, turtle, bee
• Nature: Tree, sun, cloud, flower, mountain
• Shapes: Star, heart, lightning bolt, trophy
• Misc: Globe, clock, music note, light bulb, map, flag

Every illustration is clean line art that prints well in black and white. No color ink needed.

How to Use It

1. Open the crossword builder and generate a puzzle
2. Switch to the Customize tab in the sidebar
3. Expand the Clip Art section
4. Click a category tab to browse, then click an illustration to place it
5. Drag to move it anywhere on the page
6. Use the corner handle to resize, or the red X to remove

You can place multiple illustrations. Each one saves with the puzzle, so they will still be there when you come back to edit.

Why Add Clip Art to a Crossword?

A crossword about ocean life with a fish and turtle next to the grid looks more engaging than a plain grid on white paper. For younger students, the visual connection between the illustration and the topic helps them engage with the activity. For older students, it just makes the worksheet look more polished.

Teachers have been using clip art in the worksheet builder since last week. Adding it to crosswords was the most requested follow-up.

Also New: No Watermark for Pro Users

Pro users no longer see the "thegridl.com" watermark when printing crosswords. Free users still see it, with an upgrade prompt in the Customize tab. This applies to crossword prints only for now, with other puzzle types coming soon.
