· bingo, new feature, classroom, vocabulary review

Gridl now has a bingo card maker, and it comes with something most bingo generators don't: a live game mode where students join with a code and play on their own device in real time.

What it does

You add a list of words or phrases, set how many cards you want (up to 200), and click Generate. Every card is shuffled independently, so no two students end up with the same layout. Then you can either print the whole set as a PDF, or save it and host a live game.

The live game works like this:

  1. You open the host screen and get a short join code
  2. Students go to thegridl.com/bingo/join and enter the code with their name
  3. Each student gets their own unique card on their device
  4. You click words to call them, and every student sees called words highlighted on their card in real time
  5. When a student has bingo, they hit the BINGO button and you see the claim instantly on your host screen

No app to install. No accounts needed for students. Just a code.

Why bingo works for vocabulary review

Bingo is one of those activities that works at almost any level and with almost any subject. A few ideas:

  • Vocabulary bingo: call out definitions and students find the matching term
  • Math bingo: put answers on the cards, call out equations
  • Foreign language: cards in the target language, you call in English (or the reverse)
  • History or science review: any unit vocabulary works as a word list
  • Sight words: great for younger readers learning high-frequency words

The live game mode makes it more engaging than a printed card because students can see the called words building up, and there is a real moment when someone clicks BINGO and everyone knows.

How to get started

Go to thegridl.com/bingo, add your words, and click Generate Cards. You need at least 24 words to fill a 5x5 grid (the center square is a free space).

To host a live game, save your card set first, then click "Host Live Game." You will get a join code to share with your class.

Bingo is free for everyone. Saving card sets for reuse, CSV upload for large word lists, and folders require a Pro subscription.
